[News] - How to block the controls of WowWee’s Rovio W-Fi controlled robot?
Hi there!
I’ve recently bought that Rovio robot for my son’s birthday, the device is pretty cool but it explores the room all by himself and sometimes I’m afraid that somebody can gain control over it. Is it really possible and how to stop it if it does?
Hello Patrick!
That Rovio robot is considered to be a simple toy, but its functionality is comparable with modern spying drones. It is mounted with a couple of sensors and a built-in 640x480 VGA camera. That camera is installed on a moving head of the robot so the angles of view are just perfect. We should mention that video quality ranges between 176x144 and 640x480 resolution. The higher that resolution is the lower the frame rate will be. In other words that Rovio device is a Wi-Fi controlled wireless web camera on three wheels. Rovio robot is mounted with a rather sensitive wireless microphone, so you will be able to hear all that happens near it. As far as it is Wi-Fi enabled you can control it with almost every internet connected device. It may be a tablet, PC or a smartphone and you can do it from any place in the world where internet connection can be found. As you know, Wi-Fi connections are vulnerable to various kinds of attacks and that’s why the answer to your question is yes. Someone can really take control over your Rovio to spy on you at your house. But luckily jammer-store.com has a solution right up for you. To block Rovio’s controls you may try to use a Wi-Fi jamming device, which will block all the signals at 2.4 GHz frequency that is used for wireless networks. The only ghost effect that can be here is that that Bluetooth will actually be blocked too as it uses the same frequency! Thanks for your question, I hope I’ve managed to help. |
